About EIX

"One in 23 entrepreneurial ventures succeeds; the goal of EIX is to improve that ratio."
Dick Schulze
Entrepreneur & Innovation Exchange (EIX) is a free peer-reviewed resource on entrepreneurship and innovation for entrepreneurs, innovators, and those who support them such as investors, advisors, and educators. Our goal is to improve the success rate of new businesses through education. Philanthropically funded by the Schulze Family Foundation, EIX shares the best research on the practice of entrepreneurship and makes it relevant and accessible to both aspiring and practicing entrepreneurs.

Established in 2014, EIX today attracts more than 15 million page views a year. It has become the top peer-reviewed applied resource for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, professors, and students. EIX includes research articles by academia’s foremost professors and other experts, experience-grounded insights from established entrepreneurs and innovators, and illuminating interviews in video and audio formats. We also have a vast trove of resources for entrepreneurship students, including articles about e-Fest, our annual competition for business ideas from undergraduates. Articles geared to professors share effective teaching techniques that help enrich the classroom experience and better prepare students for the world of entrepreneurship.

Launched in April of 2014 by James Wetherbe, founding Editor in Chief, along with David Deeds as Senior Editor, EIX was created to introduce a new model of high-quality insights for entrepreneurs by combining the power of rapid peer review with articles on topics relevant to practicing entrepreneurs and investors.

Our focus is on four audiences critical to the future of entrepreneurship.

  • For entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors: EIX is an online platform that enables the most successful business builders to share the lessons they’ve learned with current and future entrepreneurs who are looking for guidance and inspiration. EIX does this through in-depth articles and video interviews in which these entrepreneurs explain in detail the keys to their firms’ success.
  • For researchers and scholars: EIX greatly reduces the time to publish in a leading academic journal by months or even years, yet still carries the prestige of being vetted by leading professors. Reducing the cycle time of publishing in academic journals is particularly important in a field where changes in theory and practice have been accelerating. Just as important, because of its broader appeal to entrepreneurs, EIX enables researchers and scholars to bring their most important ideas and research in front of the professionals who need it most: current and aspiring entrepreneurs.
  • For professors and other teachers: EIX gives entrepreneurship and business professors and teachers a forum for sharing teaching exercises, resources for students, and other ideas for enriching the classroom experience. With EIX content, educators can better prepare students for the world after graduation.
  • For students: Besieged with an explosion of Internet content on entrepreneurship, EIX is an online source with exceptional knowledge on entrepreneurship with content that's been carefully vetted and selected by a prestigious and highly skilled editorial board. Accordingly, EIX gives students a powerful resource for their own research, and thus a tool to compete for scholarships and doctoral fellowships.

EIX is made possible by the generous support of the charitable foundation of Richard M. Schulze, the founder of Best Buy Co., America’s largest consumer electronics retailer. Richard Schulze launched the firm in 1983 and grew Best Buy into a global, category-leading firm with 2020 revenues of $43 billion.

THE EIX PROCESS

How EIX Works

After creating an EIX account (via a link on our home page), authors submit an article in one of several categories (see link below for "Submitting an Article for Publication.") A prospective author can choose one or more reviewers for the article from our editorial board. The reviewers may endorse the article right away or suggest revisions. Once the reviewers' endorsements are in hand, our staff edits the article for readability and grammar before it is published on the EIX website. Published articles include space for readers to comment. Our system tracks how well they are doing and includes both trending and popular articles on our home page.

Each year, articles judged to have the greatest impact are nominated for a Schulze Award. Winners receive a grant to support their research or award scholarships to be donated on their behalf to a college or university of their choice.

In the video below, Richard Schulze discusses his vision for EIX with founding editor James Wetherbe.
