The Process
All new submissions are screened by an EIX Senior Editor. Many, but not all, submissions will be accepted for review by EIX Editors. If a submission is rejected for any reason, a note with details will be sent to the author by the Senior Editor. In cases where a member of the EIX Editorial Board reviews an article first, a Senior Editor reserves the right to review it and offer substantive suggestions before it is published.
Senior Editors coordinate the review, updating, and publication of submissions. They help communicate with the EIX Editorial team, gather feedback, and share it with authors. During the review process, automated emails will be sent out when there are changes to submission status. The submission "Timeline" will also show all actions taken on a submission, with comments and feedback. The goal is a centralized review process that can happen very quickly. Authors will have a chance to review and respond to feedback (to the EIX Senior Editor) and/or make updates to the submission as needed.
Once a submission is approved for publication, all updates are "frozen," and the publication editor provides final review and editing in preparation for digital publishing on EIX.
Review Process and Selecting Review Editors
Editor reviews are part of a powerful feedback loop contained within EIX. This mechanism enables the users who make submissions to learn quickly about new reviews, editorial feedback, fixes and suggestions. This quickly improves the quality of submissions. We are growing our community of editors on our Editorial Board to include many entrepreneurial thought leaders to cover every aspect of entrepreneurship and innovation (our "TAGS"), and help each submission reach the largest number of interested and engaged people.
The number of editor endorsements required for submission categories are as follows:
- Three editors for Theory and Research
- Two editors for Applied and Practice, Case Studies, and Education and Teaching
- Editor in Chief or Senior Editor is automatically assigned to endorse Commentaries and Interviews
During the submission process, an author can invite the appropriate number of Editorial Board members to review it depending on the submission category. Prospective authors should search our board members' expertise tags for their invitation selections. Once invited, editors may elect to accept or decline the invitation. Editors might pass if they feel the manuscript is not a good fit or if they can’t give the author a quick enough response. When editors pass on an invitation, the author may select and invite other editors.
The endorsing editors' names will be displayed with the published article. Including editors with the publication is part of the EIX commitment to transparency. It encourages quality curating and also gives credit to the editors for their contribution.
Just as an editor can decline a submission, an author who is unsatisfied with an editor’s review or disputes its accuracy can ask for a replacement to get the number of required endorsements. Only one editor can be replaced for each submission. This allows authors to be their best advocate for getting published.
How to Become a Reviewer and Member of the EIX Editorial Board
Before becoming an editor, candidates must first serve as a reviewer. A reviewer must be an EIX member with at least one accepted EIX research or practice publication. They may make a personal request to become a reviewer to the director of operations; approval of the EIX Editorial Board is also needed. The normal appointment process may take 1-5 business days, mainly to verify the prospective reviewer’s credentials if needed. As a reviewer you are allowed to rank articles using the LIFT score at the end of each article or learning resource. In addition, reviewers’ rankings carry five times the weight of a regular EIX member when computing LIFT scores for Schulze Award consideration. Editors might ask reviewers to provide feedback on a specific manuscript based on their particular expertise.
After serving for one year, reviewers can request that the editor-in-chief appoint them to the Editorial Board.

A: Only a fraction of submissions may reach final publishing, and fewer still have the exceptional traits required for Schulze Award status. However, all quality submissions have excellent chances of visibility in the EIX community as well as eventual publishing.
Q: What is the review process of vetting manuscripts to EIX?
A: EIX is a paradigm shift from traditional academic/practitioner print journals by reducing the submission to publication time from 1-3 years to a matter of days. We do this by replacing the prolonged centralized, blind review process with a decentralized, transparent endorsement process. In this model, authors can request review by an editorial board of highly regarded scholars or entrepreneurs. Three endorsements from the editorial board grants acceptance for publication. To ensure quality, the endorsers are identified on each published article, so their reputation is part of the equation. Also, to ensure an engaging presentation all articles accepted for publication are edited to the same standards as leading business journals.
